What is a mastermind? According to Wikipedia it is a peer-to-peer mentoring concept used to help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members. In short, it is self-education, and, according to Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, and Russell Brunson, it is becoming the new norm.
Today, education can come from any source. Many students graduate high school and then go to college. Some finish in four years while others leave and return at a later date after they mature and figure out what they want from higher education.
Some never return to college. They either learn as they go, figuring out how to do what they need to do when they need the information, or they just make do with the knowledge they have gained so far.
As a retired teacher, I spent many days in workshops, college courses and professional development days. Faculty and staff would all gather in the same room to learn the next best solution to the woes of traditional education. We would be given a set of problems and spend the day brainstorming and coming up with ideas to solve the problems.
The mastermind is the new wave of self-education. Masterminds bring together people who have similar goals to create an atmosphere full of energy. A group of like-minded people coming together to learn new skills and help each other solve problems and find solutions. Everyone in the room combines their brains and everyone in the room gets smarter.
Masterminds are the ultimate form of group work. It’s not the old form of group work where one or two people do all the work and the lazy ones get the credit for it. No, a mastermind group is cooperative learning at it’s finest. And being a part of a group of people who are supporting, encouraging and educating each other makes this retired teacher’s heart happy
